A Couple More Programs to Foster Self-Reliance
And there are many worthwhile organizations that could use our help. Here's a couple more that
I like.
A post at India, Ink caught my interest. You can make your own micro-loan (starting at $25) to someone in the developing world through an organization called kiva.org. Another way to get involved is to put a banner on your website or blog.
Of course, I want to mention Heifer.org where you can purchase animals for people around the world. This gift can help them become self-reliant.
We're nearing the end of the year and a time when people often buy gifts for loved ones. Maybe you could consider a donation to one of these organizations in their name instead of more "stuff."

Hi Sandra,
Thanks for your post on Kiva. You've introduced to your readers a unique way of getting connected to something worthwhile, in a relevant and practical manner. Thanks also for putting the banner up; you've helped to extend the shelf life of Kiva's message. Hope you get a chance to catch the PBS documentary on Kiva being broadcast on Oct 31. Thanks again!
Regards,
Tim (volunteer with Kiva.org)
