What About Electric Hand Dryers?
I don't know about you, but I've always disliked electric hand dryers in ladiesrooms because they are slow and don't seem to work very well. But lately I've seen a new model around - called the XLerator - and I've totally changed my opinion.
I first saw one at Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC). According to a recent article in The Campus Chronicle, DMACC removed paper towel dispensers in the 80s. This article quotes the physical plant director who says they save as much as $35,000 a year by using electric dryers instead of paper towels because they do not have to ship, store, stock or dispose of paper towels. That's a lot of $$.
I'm not sure how long the Excel XLerator brand dryers have been in the market, but it sounds like about four years. I like this brand because my hands don't dry out and it's fast, although the noise may surprise you the first time. Your hands will be dry in 10-15 seconds and it's considered a green product since it uses one-third the energy as the
old hand dryers.
Have you tried one yet?
My advice to building managers: if you're going to use electric hand dryers in the ladiesrooms, pick a good one!
