Oh Yeah, Work Life Balance
While driving across rural Iowa today, I was pleased to see a 18-wheel truck with a Trek bicycle mounted on the back of the tractor cab. Now that was a first for me. Glad to see someone who drives truck has a way to get around when he gets to his location and a chance to fit in some exercise. Very important after driving all day and a great stress reliever. It seems like this person works to have balance in life, something I need to work on these days.
It's been difficult for me to start up a new business (or two) and fit in all the other priorities in life, most of all exercise. Maybe I'm just using that as an excuse, so I looked for inspiration in the blogosphere...
The posts below are both "must reads" IMHO.
Discovering Work Life Balance at Feld Thoughts: This post is over a year old, but the content is great and includes tips to add a bit of structure to life. Check out the comments, too.
Work Life Balance at Zoli's Blog: I've heard the story before about putting rocks in the jar followed by pebbles and sand, but this version has a different twist. (I would probably substitute tea though.)
How do you make sure you have balance between work, play, family, spiritual, exercise, etc.?

When I stopped beating myself up over being out of balance...it helped me maintain balance. Kind of odd yes, but life balance is a bell curve and we're typically thrust into either side of the median by something..and that's OK.
Also, THINKING about balance and how far you've tilted either way at least once a week will at least let your psyche know that you've acknowledged the issue (which magically seems to create life balance momentum for me).

Hi Doug,
Thanks for dropping by. I totally agree with your comments. When I am beating myself up about something, I am focusing on the negative instead of affirming something positive. Great reminder.

You know what? The only way to appreciate the life around you is to differentiate work, family and other stuff. When you work - just work as other people do - 8h per day; when you need to get a rest - fly somewhere abroad to meet new people and discover countries. For instance, book a ticket to a Russia river cruise.

Ja nie rozumiem, co oznacza ten napis nad znakiem na fotografii :) Maybe you should find a new job or start their own business before the age of 40 ;)

When you come home don't speak about your job. Now your family is your job. Post is good.

Work and life, these are two different thing facing each other. If you don't balance them then ready to bear result.
