flickr Feature Makes it Easy to "Blog" Photos
One of my favorite things to do each week is pick a photo for "Wordless Wednesday." I like to take photos myself, and don't always have the time - so I take this opportunity to browse through the latest submissions on my first choice for photos - flickr. It's amazing how many photo sites there are since digital cameras have become popular. And the quality of the photos is incredible (but not all of them).
When selecting a photo to share on Purple Wren, I use the advanced search button and choose "Only search within Creative Commons-licensed photos."

That way, I don't end up finding the perfect photo, only to be disappointed when the owner doesn't want me to share it with my readers.
One of the best features on flickr is the "blog this" button that you will see above many of the photos.
You choose which blog and it automatically opens a window where you can compose the post. Once it's saved, I open the post in TypePad to select a category and add Technorati tags. (Maybe someday we'll be able to edit that before we save it, too.)
This process automatically sizes the image and puts in the name and links to the photographer. Cooh, huh?

Here's a link to the finished post with a photo inserted using this tool.

Maybe you'll like this feature, too.
Do you have a favorite blogging tool?

I just started using Flickr this week. I'm into uploading old photos from high school and when I lived in Germany.
I'm a bit confused as to what the difference is in keeping it private vs. public. I wish that Flickr would have strictly an html code on their tools so that I could show off my photos on MySpace.
Thanks for this post!

Hi Angela,
Thanks for stopping by. I'm new to the posting game. I've been a viewer for a long time and am just now starting to put up my own photos.
Do you mean private like in password protected so you only let family see? I'll have to do some research before I upload any more pics.

Hello Sandy,
I have been using the Advanced Search on Flickr and giving proper credit for several months now; however, I do not use the "Blog It" button because my process is that I write a post first, then go looking for the perfect image, often for a fellow Contributor's post, not my own. Always after the post is written. Slow, but worth it.
Images really add some readability to our team blog about being childfree and female.
I will add that until very recently, I was merely putting a link back to the Flickr author's page. I believe it is more correct to also include a link to the specific type of Creative Commons license that they have selected. I do it manually, cut and paste, like this: (cc) with the link on the two Cs.

To answer your specific question (good blogging technique BTW), I really enjoy using MyBlogLog and seeing my reader's faces in the sidebar, often corresponding with them!
